Choosing a side hinged garage door

Most modern houses are fitted with an up and over garage door as standard, but many people given the choice are opting for the more traditional side hinged garage doors especially if the property is an older one as this type of garage door fits in better with older properties.

There are many advantages to choosing a side hinged garage door with the first being that there is no need to open the whole of the garage up if you do not want to for instance if you are just entering the garage to get out garden tools or equipment. Most people do not use the garage to house the car but if you do want to use it for this purpose both doors can be opened when necessary.

Some up and over garage doors which are made from steel are durable but are very heavy to open and close so may cause problems for the more elderly whereas a side hinged set of garage doors will be much easier to open and close as they can swing open on the hinges with very little effort.

Side hinged garage doors can be found in a range of colours and finishes to suit all tastes so whether you prefer a more traditional wooden finish or a more contemporary look there should be a style you like.
