Is it time to replace your garage door?

For many homeowners, the garage door becomes a neglected feature of the property as it is often hidden by the car when closed and not noticed when driving away from the house but the state of repair of the garage door can impact the look of the whole property.

In some cases, a wash down with a jet wash will be all that is needed especially if the door is made from steel and has been powder coated. This coating will usually last for years and a hose down will soon have it looking clean and fresh. If the powder coating has become damaged a coat of paint may be necessary to freshen up the look of the garage door. Make sure that a suitable paint is used that hardens quickly reducing the likelihood of insects landing on the wet surface and spoiling the finish.

If the garage door is wooden then it may be that parts of it have become rotten and will need replacing. A decision will need to be made as to whether the whole door needs to be replaced or whether just a section of the door needs to be repaired. If the whole door needs replacing it may be worth considering changing the door to a steel or aluminium one which will need less attention in coming years.
