Benefits of Insulated Garage Doors

A person may not think of it when he has a garage, but one should ensure that his garage door is insulated. There are various benefits to this, and many people take it for granted. One of the importance of having an insulated door is that if a person has a garage with a room above it or a door on the interior of his house, this can stop cold drafts from entering the garage. Even if the door is sealed to prevent the elements, when there is no insulation in between your door panels, it can make the interior of the door very cold, resulting to greater loss of heat in the garage itself.

To any hobbyist who have a shop of some kind in the garage, or need to work on the vehicle, when you use an insulated door, it will lower the need of an extra heater inside your garage on a cold day. Even when the doors are closed, sometimes the garage can be very chilly as compared to the outside temperature. To any person who is wondering why the garage is feeling like a Popsicle, it can be because the garage door is not insulated or the materials used are not right.

Even if there is Styrofoam granule inside your door, it is not a good insulation. Even though Styrofoam is good at dampening sound, they do not make a good garage door insulator. If it is the case, or there is no insulated door, then get some Polyurethane instead. It attaches directly inside your door panels leaving no gaps. A part from being a better insulator, it also fills up the space and this makes the doors more secure and stronger.

When checking to ensure the garage door is insulated, check also the seals on top and bottom of your door, and also between your door panels. The door panels should not be brittle and hard but flexible and nice. If you realize that they are hard and crumbling, then you should replace them.

There are few options when you want to insulate the garage door. When you have the right tools and you know what to do, it is cheaper to buy DIY kit. If not, let an expert come and do the job for you. It is advisable to get an expert because after insulating the door, there is an extra weight which is added on to the door and you might be forced to readjust the opener. For an amateur, this can be very dangerous.

Sometimes you may think that doing the job does not worth the money, but if your garage is attached, or have a room above it and every time you wonder why the heating bill normally shoots up during winter, now you know. When you do not have insulated garage doors, it can be compared to leaving your window open during the cold time of the year. For any person who wants to control the heating bill while enjoying the garage space better, ensure that the you have the garage door insulated.
