Changing your garage door what are your options?

If you are looking to improve the kerb appeal of your property one of the things that you may want to consider is replacing the garage door. This often comes way down the list of priorities for most people, but it can make a big difference to the appearance of the property.

There are four main types of garage door, up and over, roller, bi or tri folding doors and simply two doors. These can all be fitted with automatic openers either using a remote control or with a switch on the wall very often with both.

The material and finish on the garage doors is very much a matter of taste and will depend on the budget available and the style of house as an older property would probably benefit from a more traditional garage door whereas an up and over door would probably suit a garage attached to a modern house.

Some more traditional styles of garage door, usually made of wood, are glazed at the top letting some natural light into the garage which is particularly useful if the garage is used as a workshop. Although wooden doors look appealing, there is the issue with ongoing maintenance either painting or varnishing will need to be carried out. Metal garage doors are usually powder coated when bought so painting will not be a problem certainly for a good few years.
